Every single lotion, potion and drop of make-up you wear may be killing you!

Women wear make-up practically EVERY SINGLE DAY. Both men and women, on a daily basis, use lotions, hair products, sun screens, shaving creams, lip balms, nail polish, deodorants, etc. Have you ever stopped to investigate what is IN the products you use? Whatever is in those products, it is not just going ON your body, it is also going INTO your body. I urge you to STOP using all products right now and investigate what is IN them. Your life may depend on it.
Sure these products won’t kill you instantly, but what are the toxic ingredients doing to you in accumulated amounts over days, months, years? And believe me, nearly every single item I had in my bathroom – the usual stuff we all buy at the local store – had toxic ingredients.
I don’t know about you, but now that I am aware of all of this, I don’t want to find out the consequences of this the hard way. There is a prevalence of cancer in this world. What is causing that? It makes you wonder, doesn’t it?!
I would like to share with you how I ended up on this journey of discovering what is in ALL of the products that I use…. and how 90% of all of the products that were once in our bathroom are now in the trash. I’d also like to share with you how my bathroom is now filled with amazing, healthy products, like those from 100% Pure.
I recently went to the dermatologist for my annual skin cancer check, like I do once or twice every year for my Irish skin, and asked what skincare I should be using. I’m approaching 50 (I cannot believe I just said that out loud) and know I need to start paying much closer attention to my skin if I am to slide into the second decade trying to defy the signs of aging and stay healthy. My dermatologist gave me a list of a whole slew of products that I should be using and being the analyzer that I am, I decided to buy just one thing and research the rest later. So I went home with a facial cleanser from a reputable dermatological brand called SkinMedica AHA BHA Exfoliating Cleanser.
I began using this new facial cleanser and began to wonder what was in it. As I was thinking about ingredients, I recalled an interesting memory that I should share with you now. One spring about 2009, I noticed that I had a weird metallic taste in my mouth and I felt like my whole body chemistry was out of whack. I actually licked my arm (yes, I really did that) and it tasted like nickels! After a few weeks, it all went away but I never figured out what it was. Then the following spring, THE SAME THING! I tasted like metals! What on earth was going on? I began to wonder what I was doing each spring that was causing this.
Was it the yard fertilizer? Gardening? Bug Spray? Sun Screen? Hmmmmmm…. the search was on in my brain for an answer.
Coincidentally, my beautiful Labrador Retriever also had an issue every spring. She was allergic to something – I wasn’t sure what – so I used an anti-itch / skin soothing spray on her that spring and the spring before. Could it be that spray, I wondered? Nah, I thought…. it was just a spray so as I applied it to her skin, I didn’t need to touch it. BUT, I recalled, I did use the tips of two fingers to rub the spray into her belly. How could that be it, I wondered? I barely touched it and only used the tips of TWO FINGERS. I decided to do a Google search on the ingredients. Somehow, I ended up on a forum of other people who had used similar products and one ingredient in the spray was the common denominator. A bunch of people who used similar products also had skin that tasted like metals. EUREKA! I found out what it was. But how could such a tiny application on only TWO fingertips cause my entire body to taste like metals for weeks?
It was then that I realized that every single lotion, potion and drop of make-up we wear goes INTO our bodies.. not just ON them. And clearly, it doesn’t take much exposure.
Fastforward to my recent trip to the dermatologist and my search for the ingredients in the new skin cleanser became more important to me. In my research, I stumbled upon a really great site where you can search products, or each ingredient in a product, to see how toxic it is to humans. Turns out the new skin cleanser had some slightly questionable ingredients.
The EWG Skin Deep web site, which stands for Environmental Working Group, has a mission to educate the public on what is actually in the products we use every day. Their web site states:
“The American government doesn’t require health studies or pre-market testing of the chemicals in personal care products, even though just about everyone is exposed to them. Through Skin Deep, we put the power of information in consumers’ hands. When you know what’s in the products you bring into your home and how those chemicals may affect your health and the environment, you can make informed purchasing decisions — and help transform the marketplace.”
In the Skin Deep database, each product or ingredient is rated on how hazardous it is on a scale of 1-10… “1” being totally safe and “10” being very toxic. Several of the ingredients in my new skin cleanser were coming up as a “4.” Not bad, but not perfect either. I began to search out some alternatives that scored a 1, 2 or maybe even a 3.
This is how I discovered my new favorite make-up and skin care line called 100% Pure.
I have searched extensively and this company is by far the best quality make-up that I have found to date… it is non-toxic and actually good for you. There are many brands of cosmetics and skin care companies that claim to be healthy but if you look up the ingredients in the Skin Deep database, you will find out that they are anything but healthy. Many of those companies will put a couple of healthy ingredients in the mix to show you just how fabulous the product is but then fail to keep it healthy by adding all sorts of bad stuff to the ingredients list. There are also companies that I will call “the better bad choice,” as they aren’t as toxic as some but still not rated as a low hazard in the Skin Deep database.
Think about it this way…. a company that sells cosmetics has one goal – SALES – and most are more concerned with getting the items to fly off the shelves. They do this by paying attention to how the products look (packaging and appearance often using synthetic dyes and toxic ingredients), how they smell (often by using synthetic fragrances) and sometimes how they taste (often adding synthetic flavors). The label will often tout how great the product is for you, how healthy the ingredients are and will even list a few great sounding words that sound super healthy. As long as it sounds good and looks good to the consumer, tastes good and smells good, the company makes huge profits because people keep buying it. Do these companies ever stop to consider what the ingredients do to the human body? Are the ingredients regulated? Not much, it turns out.
The toxic ingredients added to cosmetics and skin care may not kill you instantly but what happens when this toxic brew accumulates in your system?
In contrast to bad choices or “the better bad choices,” 100% Pure is the BEST choice. 100% Pure formulates make-up and skin care that is healthy, non-toxic and actually good for you. It took me a lot of research to learn all of this and I am thrilled to share it with you. I love this company so much that I signed up to be an affiliate and share their products as I want everyone to know that there are healthy alternatives out there.
One of my favorite products by 100% Pure is called Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream and not only does it smell heavenly, I swear it seems to really be working to reduce lines around my eyes.
Another of my favorite products is the Fruit Pigmented Water Foundation. This is a light tinted moisturizer that I love but for those who like a more full coverage, 100% Pure has plenty of other options. I chose the Fruit Pigmented Water Foundation because it does not contain titanium dioxide, which I have found is a bit controversial (and may be a human carcinogen in airborne products). Instead, the Fruit Pigmented Water Foundation has zinc in it, which is considered a safer daily SPF.
Women wear make-up practically EVERY SINGLE DAY. And whatever is in that product is going INTO their bodies. STOP using ALL products – make-up, skin care, lotion, hair care products, deodorants, etc. – and investigate what is IN them. Your wellbeing may depend on it.
